Michael Phelps wins 8th gold medal

Everyone knew Michael Phelps would win 8 gold medals, right? Well today, Aug. 17, at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Phelps friends helped him land his 8th gold medal.

Know one in the Olympics history every won 8 gold medals in any single Olympic Games. It would be hard pressed for anyone to match this incredible victory any time soon.

Phelps dove into the pool as the third of four swimmers in an event that involves all four of swimming’s disciplines, the U.S. team was in third. Phelps finished 50.15 seconds later leaving U.S.A in the lead. Freestyle swimmer Jason Lezak finished with a new world record of 3 minutes 29.34 seconds. With this victory, Phelps now holds the Olympic record with the most golds in one game beating the 1972 record held by Mark Spitz of California who had 6 golds and 2 bronzes medals.

Dibaba gets the gold in Women’s 10000m

Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia wins the gold medal in the womens 10000m race and sets a new world olympic record during the Beijing Olympics 2008.

Dibaba ran an amazing 29:54.66 race which broke the old Olympic record of 30:17:49 which was also held by Ethiopian Deratu Tulu.

The follow up winners of the 2008 Olympics Women’s 10000m race were Elvan Abeylegess of Turkey who got the silver medal with a time of 29:56:34 and the bronze goes to Shalane Flanagan of the United States who’s time was 30:22:22.

Beijing Olympics: Lip-Synching Chinese Girl

Come on China! What’s the deal with the slight of hand stuff?

A Chinese girl singing Ode to the Motherland was not the Chinese girl singing Ode to the Motherland. A little 7 year old Chinese girl was picked to sing but in the Chinese eyes was not as cute as they wanted her to be. So, they decided to present to the public a more cuter, 9 year old Chinese girl, with better teeth. The 9 year old lip-synched the song and took credit for how great “she” sounded.

Talking about control freaks. Don’t the Chinese know that at least in American eyes, All little girls are cute?


China takes the gold for Women’s Gymnastics

The U.S Womens gymnastics team was ready to get the gold but two unfortunate mistakes by Alicia Sacramone, a veteran, turned this dream upside down. With an impressive running start to mount the balance beam, Alicia landed on the balance beam with here right foot half on and half off the beam. She tried dearly to regain composure but could not and fell off the beam.

Olympic Basketball: Team USA Beats China

The U.S. mens basketball team, Team USA, is on target to relaim the gold medal they lost in the 2004 Olympics. In the Olympic basketball opener today in Beijing, Team USA beat China 101 to 70.

Michael Phelps Clinches Gold for the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team

After 4 minutes and 3.84 seconds, the race was over. Michael Phelps steals the gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics for the 400-meter individual medley leaving the Silver to Laszlo Cseh and the Bronze to Ryan Lochte.

Beijing Olympics: Saber Fencing Gold goes to Zagunis

A proud victory for Mariel Zagunis who is a Woman and the first American to when a gold metal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Zagunis took the gold with a 15-8 victory over Sada Jacobson, who won the silver. Becca Ward took the bronze.

Zagunis is not new to saber fencing victories. She was also saber champion in 2004, when she became the first American in a century to win a fencing gold. Winning 2 Olympics in a row in saber fencing, women are clearly the power players in this field.

President George Bush, who is attending the games said “Fencing may not be a big sport in America, But today at the Olympics, it certainly is.”

Beijing Olympics: Todd Bachman Stabbed to Death

A tragic end to what was supposed to be a nice day for touring the sites of Beijing. Todd Bachman, father of former Olympian Elisabeth Bachman McCutcheon, was stabbed to death while touring an ancient site, Drum Tower, just 8km from the main Olympics site.

Despite the loss of an ex-players fathers death, the US women’s volleyball team beat Japan 3-1 in their Olympic opener.

Beijing Olympics: American tourist killed

On the first day of the 2008 Beijing Olympics a Chinese man with a knife attacked two relatives of a coach for the US Olympic mens volleyball team. This vicious attacker killed one member and seriously injuring another.
